Reunion Sportive d'Haiti, founded by our esteemed U.S. Department of Justice Attorney, Jean-Michel Voltaire, is looking for individuals and companies to sponsor its 5th Annual Haiti Youth Summer Soccer Camp and Leadership Program.  This summer camp will benefit 880 children and young adults, aged 10 through 25, boys and girls.  These children will come from 35 villages and towns throughout the South Department and Port-au-Prince.   Reunion Sportive will donate free soccer equipment (balls, uniforms, shoes, ect) and food to the kids. The Camp will run from July 20th through August 31, 2014.  It will open every day from noon to 8pm.

During the summer, these kids are out of school, unemployed, and are living a life of idleness.  The soccer camp provides a place for them to be meaningfully engaged and to learn important values such as, self-discipline, leadership, and team-work. Having a place for the kids to play soccer, to get a daily meal, and to interact with other kids, is vital to their social and educational development. Thus, the camp prevents juvenile delinquency and promotes youth leadership development.

The camp also promotes local economic development because all the uniforms are purchased locally in Haiti.  Reunion Sportive also hires 45 people locally to manage the camp.  They cook for the kids and serve as mentors, coaches, referees, and security guards.  These people would have otherwise been unemployed.  Additionally, several hundreds of local merchants (mostly women) attend the games and sell their products to support their families.  Thousands of people come to the games to sheer on the kids from their villages and to socialize with their friends and families.  This is wonderful initiative that is making a positive difference in these kids’ future.

According to Mr. Voltaire, “in life, each one of us has a calling and I have found mine, which is to help the youth of Haiti in their search for a better future.” “They are my little heroes, as they inspire me every day,” said Mr. Voltaire. He continued “each summer, I have learned from these children as they have learned from me. In spite of their social and economic conditions, I witness them transform the unthinkable hardship into an unshakable commitment to build their lives. Their stories of survival are inspiring. Their courage and perseverance in the face of adversity exemplify the best of Haiti and the resilience of a generation of children ready to meet their challenges with dignity and grace.” Investing in Haiti's children is an investment in Haiti’s future.  Let these children inspire you as well, by making a donation.

All donations are tax-deductible.  A gift of $500 will feed 22 children for two months, $250 will buy their uniforms (22 jerseys and 22 shorts), and $100 will feed them for a week. You can make a donation online at www.RSHaiti.org, or mail a check to Reunion Sportive d’Haiti, 903 Kennebec Ave., Takoma Park, MD 20912.
